Carlile is the solo indie pop project of Emily Nichols, a Chicago-based singer, songwriter and producer. Nichols’ velvety vocals first emerged in the Chicago music scene as the frontwoman of the music collective Woo Park, a psychedelic soul sextet known for blending elements of jazz, funk and electronic music.

After leaving Woo Park to begin her solo project as Carlile, Nichols released her first EP Strange, an effortless cohesion of ethereal production, angelically powerful vocal arrangements and jazzy, pop-infused downtempo rhythms. As the Chicago Tribune notes, Strange is a “structured encapsulation of [Nichols’] emerging sound, and the ease in which she crafts songs. It’s pop music with substance, featuring a vocalist who can sing. That might not seem rare, but it is.”

On the road--whether it’s at a DIY warehouse show, local Chicago venue or festival stage--Nichols delivers high-energy, full-band performances complete with drums, bass, synth and layered vocals and effects. She has collaborated with several rising stars in the electronic music scene such as Manic Focus, Russ Liquid, and Borahm Lee (Break Science), to name a few, often joining them on the road for special guest appearances.

Citing influences such as Santigold, Tei Shi, Tove Lo and Little Dragon, Nichols is sure to continue to captivate eardrums with her multidimensional talent, one groove at a time.
